I had the best of intentions... really.
I never thought that within a few weeks of making the recommendation to photographers everywhere, I'd break my own proclamation.
Darn you Nikon, and your D500!

Five tips for improving your Aviation Photography in 2016
![]() |
| A rare moment for me - having Crazy Horse all to myself with no students! |
Since it is the New Year, a time for resolutions we will never keep, unrealistic self-improvement goals and unbridled optimism, I thought I would offer a few tips on how we all can improve our aviation photography. (Myself included!)
So here goes!

Breaking more of the rules
(I guess I was in a rebellious mood!)
Composition is ALWAYS key to building the foundation of a good image. But sometimes, you have to ask yourself what the real subject of your image is, and how best to highlight it. If you've followed my photography for more than a post or two, then you know that the interplay of aviation subjects with the environment around them is what I enjoy most.

Playing with sliders
(isn't serendipity wonderful?)

Now some of you have probably sat there and listened to +Tony Granata and I tell you to "Back off the clarity" or "Don't touch that Saturation"! I know we said that, but sometimes you just have to break your own rules.

Top 5 iPad Pro Lessons
Five things that iPad Pro users should know
![]() |
| Tablet and a DSLR, a photographer's dream or nightmare? |
With all of the hype
surrounding the announcement of the Apple iPad Pro today, I thought I should
just share some of the lessons I’ve learned over the last year of using a “Super-tablet”
as part of my everyday photography workflow.
My intent is not to disparage the iPad Pro, which I think will be an
excellent product, but rather to help those who are coveting one decide on
whether or not it will actually help improve their workflow without significant
changes to accommodate the “Super-tablet”.
